Studying When You Have Cancer

If you are at uni or TAFE, talking to your lecturers, tutors or department heads should help you to work out a strategy to cope with your study work load while recognising what is going on at home.

  • Depending on your treatment regime and side effects, you may want to defer your studies for a year or apply for special consideration when you take your exams.
  • If you need to leave town for treatment or cannot go to classes, doing a course by correspondence may be something to consider.
  • Most campuses have a Student Services Centre that provides counselling and support. Don’t be afraid to take advantage of whatever is on offer to help you get through this time.

By communicating with the relevant staff members, you can continue to work towards your educational goals.
