Now called the Sydney Children's Hospital Network-Westmead, our Oncology Unit collaborates with the adult Westmead Hospital in the care of AYA patients with cancer. As Youth Cancer-NSW, our group includes members of the paediatric/adolescent oncology unit at Sydney Children's Hospital Network-Westmead and of the adolescent/adult oncology unit at Westmead Hospital. The combined resources of these units are able to provide tertiary and quaternary level care of all forms of cancer which occur in the AYA population, including leukaemia, brain tumours, sarcomas, lymphoma, melanoma, thyroid cancer and others. Younger AYA patients are treated within the Children's Hospital, while older AYA patients are treated at the adult hospital. As well as comprehensive chemotherapy, radiotherapy and surgical oncology services, our groups offer bone marrow transplantation, survivorship and late effects clinics, fertility support, an adolescent medical service, palliative care, and comprehensive psychosocial evaluation and support. Contacts for further information and referrals include Dr Geoffrey McCowage at the Children's Hospital, Dr Mark Wong at the adult Westmead Hospital, and Dr Verity Ahern who is the radiation oncologist working at both facilities. Ms Alison Baker is the AYA Clinical Nurse Consultant. Dr Amanda Fernando is the AYA Palliative Care doctor, in the position of Fellow, a position funded by Cancer Institute NSW with CanTeen.
