If you live in NSW or the ACT there are a number of cancer services where you can be treated. In most cases where you are treated will depend on where you live. However, the place you are treated may be influenced by the type of cancer you have.
Below is a description of the specialist services for young people diagnosed with cancer in NSW and the ACT. For more info follow the links provided.
NEW SOUTH WALES
Sydney, Illawarra and Southern NSW
If you live in central Sydney, the Illawarra, South Coast and Southern NSW you are most likely to be treated at the Sydney Youth Cancer Service based at the Prince of Wales Hospital and the Sydney Children’s Hospital in Randwick.
Western Sydney and Western NSW
If you live in Western Sydney or Western NSW you are most likely to be treated at the Western Sydney Youth Cancer Service based at The Children’s Hospital Westmead and The Crown Princess Mary Cancer Centre, Westmead Hospital or the Royal Prince Alfred Hospital, Sarcoma Unit.
Hunter Region and Northern NSW
If you live in the Hunter region, North Coast or Northern NSW, you are most likely to be treated at the Hunter and Northern NSW Youth Cancer Service based at the Calvary Mater Hospital and John Hunter Children’s Hospital in Newcastle.
AUSTRALIAN CAPITAL TERRITORY
If you live in the ACT there are 2 possible options for treatment following a cancer diagnosis. If you are under 16 you are most likely to receive treatment in Sydney at one of the Youth Cancer NSW services. If you are over 16 you will generally be treated at the Canberra Hospital supported by the ACT Youth Cancer Support Service , Adult Clinicians and/or Paediatricians.
